Contract Summary
Our Purchase Policy - Plain & Simple
We want every family who brings home a Schwartz Family Farms puppy to know exactly what to expect. Below is a straightforward summary of our purchase agreement. When you're ready to move forward, you'll receive the full contract to review and sign before your deposit is processed.
Joining the Waitlist
A $500 deposit reserves your spot on our waitlist and is applied toward the total purchase price of your puppy. Once you're on the list, we'll contact you in order when your preferred litter is ready for selection (typically at 7–8 weeks of age).
Deposits are non-refundable if you cancel, stop responding, or choose not to move forward. If we are unable to provide a suitable puppy within 12 months, your deposit is fully refunded.
Picking Your Puppy
Each puppy receives a temperament evaluation and veterinary exam between weeks 7 and 8. Once results are available, we contact buyers in waitlist order to make their selection. If nothing from that litter is the right fit, you can roll your deposit to a future litter.
Payment & Pickup
The remaining balance is due in full before or on pickup day - cash or card (3% fee) (no personal checks on pickup day). Pickup must be scheduled within 14 days of being notified your puppy is ready. A boarding fee of $15/day applies if pickup is delayed beyond the agreed date.
72-Hour Health Guarantee
We guarantee every puppy is healthy at the time of sale and has received age-appropriate vaccinations and deworming. You agree to have your puppy examined by a licensed veterinarian within 72 hours of pickup (excluding Sundays and federal holidays).
If a veterinarian finds a life-threatening illness, contagious disease, or congenital defect that existed at the time of sale, you may choose a replacement puppy or a full refund - as long as you notify us in writing within 72 hours of that exam.
This guarantee does not cover conditions commonly seen in young puppies (kennel cough, parasites, hypoglycemia, hernias, etc.) or anything that develops after pickup due to the puppy's new environment.
2-Year Health Guarantee
For two years from the puppy's date of birth, we guarantee your dog will be free of severe, debilitating, or life-threatening congenital or hereditary defects.
If a qualifying condition is diagnosed, our remedy is either a replacement puppy of comparable value or a refund up to the purchase price - at our discretion. We are not responsible for veterinary costs, treatment expenses, or other costs beyond that.
To make a claim, you'll need a written diagnosis from a licensed vet, and you must notify us within 14 days of diagnosis.
This guarantee is void if the dog is not maintained according to basic care standards: quality food, regular vet visits, current vaccinations, and appropriate preventive care.
Spay / Neuter Requirement
All puppies are sold as companion pets only. Buyers agree to spay or neuter their puppy by 12 months of age and provide proof within 30 days of the procedure. Breeding without written permission from us is a breach of contract, and we reserve the right to pursue legal remedies if this occurs.
Please Don't Surrender to a Shelter
We care deeply about where our dogs end up for life. If for any reason you can no longer keep your puppy, please contact us first - we will always take a dog back or help rehome responsibly. Surrendering one of our dogs to a shelter or rescue is a violation of our agreement.
What We Ask of You
A happy, healthy dog starts with good ownership. We ask that all buyers commit to: high-quality food appropriate for your dog's life stage, regular veterinary wellness visits, current vaccinations, deworming, and parasite prevention, and a loving, safe home environment.
Governing Law
Our contract is governed by the laws of the State of Michigan. Any disputes are handled in St. Joseph County, Michigan.
For buyers who'd like to review the full legal contract before signing, we're happy to provide a copy upon request.
